Biographical Notes:

 

Edgard Abadia’s sense of art embraces and expresses life and nature through multiple media.  Born in Cali, Colombia, Abadia reflects that city’s vivacity and warmth in his sculpture, painting, collage, assemblage, music, and printmaking.  His work is richly imbued with tropical and subtropical ambience; his voices are white, brown, and black, indigenous, Asian, and European.

While studying at the Universidad Distrital, Electronics Engineering, and the famous Instituto Caro y Cuervo, Literature, in Bogotá, he immersed himself in that capital city’s art, poetry, theater, music, and literary scenes.  All of these redound to Abadia’s artistic expression. The altiplano, and colonial sites surrounding Bogotá, the great Magdalena River nourishing farms, forests, and jungles speak through his artistic rhythms and images.

Edgard F. Abadia is a US citizen currently living in Volterra (PI), Italia. 

Abadia’s works also reflects the tenor of other US venues in which he’s lived:  Chicago, New York, coastal North Carolina, Eugene and Portland OR.  Travels in Europe, North Africa, and Asia have extended his milieu, resulting in wide-ranging and eclectic visions as seen in the diversity of, for example, wood sculptures The Goddess of the Marshes’ tribal vibe and the textured harmonies of Salaam. His electronic music (Sound Art) speaks without lyrics to human sufferings and victories.  Likewise, his studio art is diverse, playful, and human.

As they have developed, Edgard Abadia’s artworks have spoken ever more clearly to their viewer through the green voice of nature, deep sensitivity and inventiveness, and a profound well of love.
